Words of advice/helpful information:
It’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

  1. I loved this episode. Thank you for sharing your narrative, suggestions and experiences. I’ve been reflecting as i listened to this episode. Thank you again!!!

      1. Definitely how to make this doctoral experience my own. I think TJ made some wonderful points about this journey aligning with who you are and how you move through the world. Oftentimes, i feel like there is only a few ways to be a graduate student and i feel like a failure if i’m not always writing, presenting, or being a stellar student. However, as a second year, i have learned that i have a non-linear way of thinking (lol) and that my process centers collective, cultural, and creative stimulation and integration. So, instead of trying to conform to what others are doing and how other people’s process may look, i want to create a path that produced the most growth, integrity and happiness for me. Also, I loved hearing about the protected time. We often talk about self-care –everywhere however, that usually assumes that you have all this unused time or the anxiety of feeling like “theres always something academic you can be doing”and that is more important then taking time out for yourself. So, protecting your time is something i’ve begun to be more intentional about starting with working out and sleeping, so i plan to continue to protect my time, and personalize this ph.d. journey. I know that was a long answer but this post helped me clarify and further reflect on things that have been on my mind. Thank you both for this! Also, (last one i promise)i loved the suggestions as well. Okay im done!
